Shortcut (Bierum, Djerba, Ansberg)

In Shortcut, I combine images from Bierum, Groningen, with images from Djerba, Tunisia.
With a blue suitcase, a figure walks through the silt of the Eems to an unknown destination. The performative act in Bierum in the cold and wet spring months in the Netherlands, contrasts with the intervention in the hot and dry environment of Tunisia and the snow covered fields in Ansberg.

Salt, water and the vastness of the area, however, connects both places and the images come together in a film and installation without beginning or end that was first presented during solo exhibition Shortcut at Bierumer School, Bierum. After that it was shown at SEE Djerba, (TN) in October 2024, Interference Autumn program in Tunis (TN), 2024, during the solo exhibition No departure information available at ARTisBOOK Groningen and the LUNA Nights in Leeuwarden, 2025.

In march and April 2024 I stayed as an artist in residence at the Bierumer School. The results of the residency were shown during the solo exhibition Shortcut (may 2024) about being in a hurry. The exhibition was part of a broader research about 'states of being' of which the documentary Senuwen is also part.
What forms can haste take? And how does rushing to catch the train differ from the rush that has generally creeped into our society? A society in which everything has to be faster and more efficient. And what does haste do to our bodies?
In the Bierumer School the installation was shown as a diptych.
